In one of Ohio’s poorest counties, the city school district saved about $2.4 million in its first year by changing how it buys healthcare. No teachers lost their jobs.
Wisconsin school districts
A cooperative started by local school districts grew from about 750 covered lives in 2021 to about 18,600 in 2026, with free primary care for members.
Rice Lake, Wisconsin
Through a direct contract, a surgery that would have been billed at $59,000 was available for about $13,100, at no cost to the employee.
